Meg March: Eldest sister; a dainty romantic; feminine, pretty, responsible, considerate, generous; soprano

Beth March: 3rd daughter; quiet musician; virtuous, shy, charitable; mezzo

Amy March: youngest sister; willful adolescent; wily, artistic, self-centered, vain, manipulative; changes the most in appearance and maturity through the show, mezzo

Marmee March: Devoted, supportive mother; strong-willed, wise, ethical, hard-working; needs to appear old enough to be the girls’ mother, mezzo/belt

Laurie Laurence: 16-year-old boy, charming neighbor; clever, intelligent, bighearted; good friend to the March girls, especially Jo; baritone/tenor

Mr. Laurence: Laurie’s grandfather; stiff curmudgeon; character role: bass/baritone
